Meghalaya’s Regional United Democratic Party or UDP in Ri Bhoi district faced a major jolt as many significant leaders decided to quit the party. The move disrupted party’s preparations ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma leads the NPP, which is an ally of the North East Democratic Alliance or NEDA and supports Bharatiya Janata Party-BJP.

As per UDP State Wing and Ri Bhoi District Unit working president Donbok Khymdeit, numerous top UDP party leaders, including the parent body, Youth Wings, Women Wings, and leaders, will quit the oldest regional party, UDP.

He further mentioned the defectors’ decision was based on their own will and understanding and they haven’t faced any issues or inconveniences with the UDP party.
