It is probably the most intense and intricate part of the saree-making process. Setting the loom is the first activity and it also includes the process of beaming where the yarns passes through the reeds and healds. This is done by joining each silk strand to the old warp threads manually. It takes nearly 2-3 days to complete the joining process. Designs or the motifs are firstly hand drawn and then are fed to a computer to replicate the images and create punch cards. It is then loaded in the Jacquard machine to start weaving. The weaver interlaces the silk threads of weft and warp.
