Further west, the landscape transforms into rolling green hills, volcanic craters, and sparkling lakes in Arkhangai province. Often compared to alpine regions for its dramatic scenery, this area is one of Mongolia’s most visually diverse destinations. Meadows stretch between mountain ridges, yaks graze near rivers, and patches of forest appear between open valleys.
One of the most striking features of the region is a large freshwater lake formed by ancient volcanic activity, surrounded by lava fields and extinct craters. Nearby, a dormant volcano allows visitors to hike to its rim for sweeping panoramic views. The region is also home to a historic valley recognized for its cultural heritage, where ancient monuments and waterfalls add depth to the scenery.
Natural hot springs are scattered throughout the province, offering a relaxing contrast to days filled with hiking, riding, or exploring nomadic camps. Families here continue seasonal migrations with their livestock, preserving traditions that have endured for centuries.
